Ghost: Skeleta

The absolute WORST reviews on anything is a bot that says "It's the best yet! Ever!" Usually reviewed by a freshman college chick who knows nothing about a band/movie. So... Ghost dropped a new album yesterday.

I remember being slightly disappointed but still liking the previous album when it dropped. I stayed up till midnight to listen. This new album Skeleta feels like a direct sequel musically. It's not Doom metal anymore and still has very much '80s light ballad metal to it.

I would say it is not their best, but what I'm more happy with is the online agreement of most people saying it is not the best, but it is still a good addition to the Ghost music collection.

So I'm glad I'm not seeing all these" it's the best album ever" fake reviews. Most songs on this album are not remember-able. There's not a guitar riff that really hits and sticks with you. There's no lyrics that are echoing in your head. Sadly it is kind of a background noise album.

Tobias Forge is the singer. But he is also the songwriter who usually records all the instruments himself for the album and then hires a band to play with him on stage. I think he is forgetting how to be a band and focused too much on being a singer. It's been an interesting turn since their first few albums were very doom and gloom Tales of devilish destruction of Earth and now the new albums are way more light-hearted and seem to point towards a brighter future.

Hopefully they return to heavier stuff. But the '80s rock pop is catchy. I'd give the album a C+.
