Turning Red

Ok friends, I'm here to set the record straight. TURNING RED is a good movie.

People have been over dramatic about it being about girls starting their periods. It is mentioned in the movie but NOT what the movie is about. It is still about becoming of age, which most movies avoid the puberty aspect of and just focus on the horror of middle school and the struggle of parental authority. I give it a solid B.

It's entertaining and gave me a decent amount of laughs and I'll probably watch it again within a year. But there are some awkward parts and the movie doesn't tell us it takes place in 2002 till the end, which had i known I'd have liked it more understanding why they had tamogachi's and a Backstreet Boys/NSYNC band was so huge. I think it did really well at highlighting the importance of friends and finding your own path separate from your parents at 13 years old.
